we do not require that a child be potty trained.
What kind of experience/
education does the owner/ head teacher have?
Melissa the head teacher is a graduate of the T.A.S.S.K. Early Childhood Education Program in California and has been working with children for 10+ years. T.A.S.S.K.- (Training Assistance and Support Services for Kids) is a specific program designed to train the owners of childcare businesses. It covered many aspects of running a childcare business, from finances to teaching young children. In addition she has 300+ hours of Early Childhood Education and 500+ certified clock hours of teaching skills. She also used to be employed by the State of California and has experience working with people/ children who have special needs such as high functioning Autism, (Aspergers) bipolar, speech, developmental delays, physical disabilities and/ or emotional disabilities. For a time she did in home day care while her children were younger, finding that she truly loved teaching the children in her care she decided to go back to school and take classes to earn her certificate. She is also CPR and First Aid Certified.
All employees are also required to be current on their CPR and First Aid Certification.
Can you tell
me a little more about your Preschool program?
Little Butterfly’s officially opened in August of 2006.
Little Butterflys offers 3 different
programs. A full day,
year round program; a ½ day program that runs August through May, and a Summer
Adventure Camp. Depending on the
sessions, payment and times you choose your child will be coming 1-5 days a
week, (payment is due at the beginning of each month.) We use Star Brite Curriculum which is an
excellent, professionally planned curriculum that meets or exceeds all state
standards and covers many things like ABCs, 123s, colors, shapes, numbers, social
studies, and much more. I have found
that this curriculum holds the children’s interest and helps to teach them more
than the fundamentals needed to prepare them for kindergarten.
We have daily, weekly and monthly themes
that are communicated to you through newsletters and a weekly theme sheet that
is located next to our sign in sheet.
In general for ages 4 and up I would
recommend our full day program. This
helps to better prepare your child for Kindergarten, in which they will be
attending 4 ½ to 5 full days a week.
Why should I
choose your Preschool?
We offer a Top Notch High Quality
Preschool environment where your child can learn to think positively and
succeed. The motto that we teach all our
children is “I think I can,” because I do believe, that if you keep trying and
you don’t give up you can succeed!
Myself and the
teachers I hire care a great deal about the children. We enjoy playing with them and teaching them
important concepts from sharing to holding a pencil.
Why is
preschool so important?
#1 To strengthen those social skills and teach your child how
to interact appropriately with peers and authority figures (other than Mom and
Dad.)
#2 To teach them the alphabet verbally and by sight and prep
them for kindergarten, including building those fine motor skills (learning to
cut and write etc.)
#3 To lay a good foundation so they build up their confidence
for their social and academic future success.
#4
Last but not least, to teach them more about God (if they attend a Christian
Preschool!)
Do you separate 3, 4 and 5 year olds?
No, I do not and this is the reason why: With Little Butterfly’s
lower child to teacher ratio we are able to teach the kids at the skill level
they are at. We also feel that the age
mix works out very well for the children.
For the older kids it helps to teach them leadership skills as well as
patience and kindness towards the younger students. The younger students learn to follow the lead
of the older students, by learning to listen, sit still, pay attention, and
share.
Your in home
Preschool vs. the larger facilities?
Not all preschools are created
equal, there is a huge variance between the way facilities are set up, the way programs
are run and the curriculums that are chosen.
Some programs do not teach your children how to cut, or how to write
their name; some of them do not teach letter recognition, or letter
sounds. Some preschools also do not
believe in letting your child go outside to play. There also is a big difference in the child
to teacher ratio, or the teacher turn over rate. What I can tell you is this: we offer a Top
Notch Program! Don’t let the fact that
my facility is in my home deter you. We
offer a full curriculum- that covers it all including practicing writing
skills. The right preschool makes all
the difference in the world. Little
Butterfly’s more than helps to educate your child- we help prepare them for life.
